Cards take series finale vs. Pirates

Pinero got the start, and was less than impressive. He was doing okay through 4 innings, but in the 5th and 6th he fell apart, and the score went from 4-1 in our favor to 6-5 advantage Pittsburg. A double by the pitcher and some shaky Cards defense didn't help his cause. Thankfully the bullpen was better today, and the offense was hot again. Miles went 3-5 with a HR and 5 RBIs, Glaus continues his hot streak by going 3-4 with another HR, and Ludwick added a HR, his 21st this season.

The Cardinals head to the All Star break with a record of 53-43, good enough for 2nd place in the NL Central. While all of us die hard fans can see obvious places the team could improve (bullpen!), it is hard to be upset with the way our team is playing. Picked to finish with one of the worst records in all of baseball by several major media outlets (take that Sports Illustrated!), this group has played hard an exceeded expectations. Hopefully they can get Carpenter and Wainwright back, and pick up some bullpen help, in time to make a run at the playoffs. Enjoy the All Star Game!
