Well that was horrible

Last night's game... if you can even call it that... well you know it's bad when I just quit watching in the 7th inning. We missed so many chances early in the ballgame. It is hard to win when you are facing a guy like Sheets, who pitched well by the way, but it's even tougher when you don't take advantage of the mistakes he does make.

Then to top if off, TLR sends Wellemeyer back out for the 7th inning after he was well over 100 pitches. I told my brother right then, "he needs to take him out." Wellemeyer pitched a good game. He wasn't great, but they scored a few runs on him early by some weak little floaters into the outfield. He held his own for 6 innings. He kept us in the game.

If we scratch a run or two out against Sheets, and we're sitting there going into the 7th down 3-2, hey I like our chances. But Wellemeyer promptly gave up a 2 run homer, and at that point I told my waiter at Buffalo Wild Wings "Check Please." There was nothing else to see.

When I woke up today and arrived at school, opened up my newspaper and saw 12-0 was the final score???? Well, I was already diasppointed, but let's just say that made it worse.

I don't know where the team goes from here. I've been saying for quite some time that we are just not quite as good as the Cubs or Brewers this year. We've got a good team, but it is a long way from perfect. I think we should be proud of how well we've done so far. Baseball has been relevant all summer to us because of how hard the team has fought to stay in it.

If they lose tonight, it is going to be tough to keep up that optimism.

Either way, I really think they will play hard until the season is over. Then in the offseason, I think we'll sign a pitcher and hopefully find a middle infielder that can hit. Then we should shore up the bullpen with Perez (make him the closer), some other guys off the DL (Kinney, Johnson), and our minor league system (Motte). We have a surplus in the outfield, and we could use some of those assets to make a trade if we need to.

So cheer up. The future is bright, even if that future doesn't really mean the next 5 weeks!

Look at it this way, if our wonderful Cards don't make it make it to the playoffs then you have more time to watch Dancing With The Stars........ since we all know you are a big fan! :)

Maybe they could have Izzy on dancing with the stars! He can't close games anymore, so he needs something to do!
